MRC Emergency Drill
Emergency Preparedness and HOSA
September 29, 2016
Trezevant Career and Technology Center HOSA participated in an exercise to collaborate efforts to better prepare our community for a large scale disaster and mass hospital surge. We were one of the high schools that partnered with the Shelby County Health Department, Emergency Management Agencies, the Veterans Administration, Tennessee Department of Health and hospitals in the Memphis region. Our 37 students and 2 teachers volunteered to be moulaged to give a realistic effect of injuries. Our Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) students were needed as “role players” to act as patients experiencing injuries or illnesses. We went through patient tracking, triage and treatment in various conditions to manage the surge of patients that may go to area hospitals in disasters. This was a great opportunity to volunteer as we learned how to react and respond in an emergency.
